Fairbanks Gold Company was founded by John Reeves in 1998. It was
formerly known as the Alaskan Gold Company and prior to that, the Fairbanks Exploration Company. The parent company was called
the United States Smelting Refining and Mining Company out of Boston back in 1926.
"Mr. Reeves has established
himself as one of the most brilliant land speculators that has ever walked the face of the Earth. He is unparralleled by his
peers. His remarkable good looks and charm is only offset by his fathomless dim wittery and self deprecation." (John
Reeves 2007)
Before he came to Alaska, he was one of the worst students ever to attend the University of Florida,
where he was an All-American swimmer. In college where he refused to set the curve in any academic undertaking he was not
known for staying awake during class. This was because he was tired from staying up too late and partying with his fellow
gators. This all ended when he dropped out of college in 1973 and hitchhiked to Alaska. Reeves spent three and a half weeks
on his thumb before arriving in Fairbanks in late May. He never hitchhiked again.
