Located in the interior of Alaska, owners John
and Ramona Reeves are the largest land owners
in Alaska with thousand of acres of patended mining claims
and proven/unproven gold reserves.
Needing a change of scenery, John arrived in Alaska in the 70's after hitch-hiking all the way from Florida. When he left the University of Florida, he posted a sign on his dorm room door saying, "Gone fishing." He left with only $4 to his name and five PBJ's, courtesy of his mother. The story of his journey north deserves better then a quick synopsis on a blog. Let's just say if Alexander Supertramp was still alive and John told him his story, Mr. Supertramp would raise a glass then saunter out of the room, knowing that he's not the most interesting person there.
Using Fairbanks as a home base, John started off with many different jobs, such as a driving a delivery truck and coaching youth swimming. Another interesting fact about John is that at UofF he was an All-American swimmer and trained under Eddie Reece, who was an assistant coach at the time. Today, Mr. Reece is a swimming legend and was the head coach of the Mens Swim Team in 2008 at Beijing. He now coaches at the University of Texas.
John and a partner operated a freighting company that hauled freight on the haul road during the pipeline days. After the pipeline, John operated a successful business near Fox, known as Gold Dredge 8. They offered guided tours of the dredge, gold panning, fine dining and an olde style saloon.
After getting out of the tourism, John established Fairbanks Gold.
Fairbanks Gold strives to develop it's properties with the focus on economically yet environmentally achievable development projects.
